Chuuk Reform Movement
Cautious, careful people, always casting about to preserve their reputation and social standing, never can bring about a reform. Those who are really in earnest must be willing to be anything or nothing in the world’s estimation, and publicly and privately, in season and out, avow their sympathy with despised and persecuted ideas and their advocates, and bear the consequences.” – Susan B. Anthony
Our Mission
Chuuk Reform Movement (CRM) is a network of globally dispersed yet locally focused Chuukese citizens and allies who share a deep commitment to create a better future for Chuuk through awareness, advocacy, and actions.
Our Vision
CRM envisions a Chuuk State where citizens are aware of social and political issues affecting them as a people, inspire each other to humble greatness, take responsibility for demanding a transparent and competent government leadership, actively engage in decision-making processes in the community, support political leadership based on sound information and judgment, and share a commitment to take actions that promote the common good of the Chuukese people over self-serving needs.
How we Work
We are first and foremost a network of Chuukese citizen-activists who share the common desire to help reform our beloved Chuuk through these overarching strategies:
AWARENESS: Be Informed!
The Chuuk Reform Movement is rooted in the belief that awareness of issues affecting us as a people is the key to reforming our failed government leadership. Through blogs, forum, debates, and other creative outreach efforts members help to educate each other and challenge each other to solve these problems. Members have the opportunity to share news about events and happenings in Chuuk. Be Informed Now…
ADVOCACY: Be Inspired!
The Chuuk Reform Movement is about Chuukese citizens inspiring one another to be men and women in service of Chuuk. We don’t have to look elsewhere for inspirations as we already have inspiring Chuukese advocating for real solutions. Members from all over the world have the opportunity to share success stories of Chuukese citizens. Be Inspired Now…
ACTION: Be Involved!
The Chuuk Reform Movement is about changing the culture of disengagement by empowering citizens with information which lead to actions. We challenge our members with a variety of opportunities to actively participate in our reform strategies individually and collectively. Members will have the opportunity to identify, organize, and implement statewide reform campaigns and initiatives addressing issues. Be Involved Now…

Our Guiding Principles
We, the members of the Chuuk Reform Movement, locally and globally, exercising our rights as active participants in the Chuuk democratic government, protected by the promises of our state and national constitutions, affirmed by the universal rights to human dignity, empowered by our desire to build a better future for our children, compelled by the decline of our social and political fabric, do hereby unite to take responsibility for our islands, our future, and the well-being of our people. Our Reform Agenda
The Chuuk Reform Movement recognizes the multitude and complexity of problems facing Chuuk all of which require a consistent agenda of reform on many fronts. We dare to begin that process by addressing some basic areas of reform in Chuuk. In the spirit of respect and open dialogue with fellow Chuukese citizens, CRM invites you to share your opinions about the issues that matter most to you, as well as your hopes and vision of what you would like to see accomplished in a consistent reform agenda for Chuuk. It is only through open and respectful dialogue between practitioners and theorists, voters and elected officials, native Chuukese and our global allies can a consensus for an agenda-setting reform program emerge. Our History
The idea to organize a reform movement was initially voiced by Chuukese participants in the Micronesian Seminar public forum. Needing an alternative place to network directly with each other and focus discussions on and solutions specifically for Chuuk led to the founding of the Chuuk Reform Movement. Though completely independent, CRM is inspired by Micsem’s mission “to assist the people of Micronesia in reflecting on life in their islands…” and more importantly to take action, but without the anonymity that has plagued the Micsem public forum.
CRM is founded by Chuukese Vid Raatior to support coalition-building of fellow citizen activists. This website serves as the virtual uut (meeting house) in which the Chuukese reformers can network, share ideas, inspire leadership, organize solutions, and mobilize actions. Officially launched on January 20, 2009, CRM members include Chuukese in academia, government, business, non-profit, faith communities, and other sectors of life in Chuuk and abroad. Membership is free and open to anyone who wishes to join us.
